LOS ANGELES, CA (Tuesday January 11th, 2011) Coming off of several big shows to close 2010 – including performing at Mexico’s Bicentennial, and sharing the bill with Enrique Iglesias, Juanes and others – today Mexican-American singer-songwriter GUSTAVO GALINDO presents “Barco De Papel”, the second single off of his debut album ENTRE LA CIUDAD Y EL MAR.
“Barco De Papel” was written by Gustavo and produced by Adrian Sosa and multi Oscar and Grammy-winning producer, Gustavo Santaolalla. “Barco De Papel is a song I feel captures the heart of the album. It’s a song that during production we knew was going to be a major part of the record, it comes from the desire to hold onto someone you have to let go. The big guitars and dynamic string arrangement really capture that sentiment,” commented Gustavo about the official release of his latest single.
GUSTAVO GALINDO was born in Mexico City and moved to California at an early age. He grew up playing guitar with his dad and listened to various kinds of music, from rancheras written by Jose Alfredo Jimenez to the pop melodies of Juan Gabriel and Luis Miguel to international bands like The Beatles and U2. In college he drew inspiration from the new breed of Latin artists, from Mana to Ozomatli, whose music defied traditional labels. Not restricted by language or genre, Gustavo writes and performs in both English and Spanish. His sound is a combination of traditional and contemporary Mexican and American styles.
Today Gustavo is a favorite among both music fans and professionals who have seen him perform relentlessly, opening up opportunities to support several top Latin acts. In addition to legends such as Enrique Iglesias and Juanes, he has shared the bill with Zoe, Kinky, Gloria Trevi, Ximena Sariñana, Natalia Lafourcade, Ely Guerra, Alejandra Guzman, Babasonicos, Alex Cuba, Los Amigos Invisibles and more. Those who have followed his early career have witnessed the emergence of a serious talent, and expectations for the release of “Barco De Papel” have been building as he has played for audiences across the country. Without a doubt, his debut album ENTRE LA CIUDAD Y EL MAR is shaping up to be one of this year’s most impressive debuts.

Gustavo Galindo’s music is a reflection of his life’s journey between two countries and two cultures. Born in Mexico City in the early 1980s, his childhood included several years living in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, followed by a period living with his cousins in Mexico City, and then a stint in Sacramento.
When south of the border, family get-togethers would, without fail, turn into Mexican music jams of everything from ranchera to pop. North of the border, Gustavo majored in International Relations — but his real education took place in the record store, where he was drawn to artists like Maná, La Ley, Juanes, Soda Stereo, Ozomatli, Joaquín Sabina and Molotov who were redefining “Latin” music by embracing influences from all over the world.
Not restricted by language or genre, Gustavo’s sound is a combination of traditional and contemporary Mexican and American styles. Gustavo writes and performs both in English and Spanish. In 2008, he released his first Spanish-language EP, La Ciudad, catching the attention of many, including Adrián Sosa, Anibal Kerpel and multi-Grammy and Oscar winning legend Gustavo Santaolalla of the Surco label. Gustavo was signed to Universal Latino/Surco in 2009, where the Santaolalla/Sosa team- the producers behind other inspirations for Gustavo, such as Café Tacuba, Julieta Venegas, Juanes and Molotov- produced his full-length debut, Entre la Ciudad y el Mar due out early 2011. His first two singles, Te Perdí and Barco de Papel, are now available digitally.
Gustavo has performed on bills with acts such as Zoé, Enrique Iglesias, Ely Guerra, Gloria Trevi, Juanes, Los Amigos Invisibles, Babasónicos, Alejandra Guzmán and Ximena Sariñana. September 15th, 2010 he also performed in Mexico’s Bicentennial celebrations held in Mexico City.
